Vonage is considered to be one of the biggest names in the VoIP industry and it is certainly one of the oldest. Known for its many features and reliable customer support, Vonage is a solid choice for those with limited technical knowledge and who don't mind spending a bit more for their VoIP service.
Installation and Interface
Vonage prides itself on being user-friendly, as evidenced by its plug-and-play installation. Upon signing up for service, users will receive a Linksys router/telephone adapter, as well as simple instructions for installation. Plugging in all of the hardware is simple, as is starting the Vonage account. Merely follow the instructions on the user guide and you should be speaking on an IP telephone within a few minutes.
Features
There are many useful features that accompany a Vonage account. Depending on the plan you choose, you may have unlimited calls to Canada and the US or you may choose a limited number of minutes for a lower monthly fee. Every plan, however, includes caller ID, voicemail, three-way calling, international call block and call return for free. A 911 service is also offered by Vonage, though this service can't trace your exact location as does traditional 911 service.
Performance
Vonage has an excellent performance record. The Linksys router/telephone adapter that accompanies the service is reliable, supporting quick data uploads and downloads. When comparing all major VoIP providers, Vonage offers one of the clearest sound qualities for calls. In fact, one would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a VoIP call through Vonage and a normal land line call.
Service and Support
The service and support from Vonage is excellent. Not only does the installation hardware come with a comprehensive user guide and FAQ, the company offers email and live support around the clock. You will find the Vonage customer service representatives to be punctual and helpful, rendering any possible complications a quick fix. Though Vonage isn't the cheapest service provider around, the price you pay helps to maintain an excellent support staff.
