International Number eXchange (INX) is a Voice over IP (VoIP) service provided by Logical Exchange, LLC, based in Denver, Colorado. As an enhanced IP communications service provider, Logical Exchange strives to enrich subscribers’ global communications experience with affordable SIP-based IP services. With a foundation of business development, product development, and marketing, Logical Exchange currently provides services to subscribers on three continents. Its senior management team has more than 50 years’ of experience with telecommunications, information technology, marketing, sales and business development having worked customers, service providers and manufacturers throughout the world.

INX’s VoIP technology is also integrated with the global public telephone network. This enables INX subscribers to connect to their phone service over the Internet from virtually anywhere in the world and to make and receive calls from virtually any land or mobile telephone in the world.

Installation and Interface

Simply fill out a subscription request form to get started with INX. You will need an SIP-based IP phone, and you will need to configure that phone to their specifications. Subscribers may use a variety of SIP-based IP phones (also called user agents) with G.729, G.723 or G.711 CODECS. You also will need IP software for that phone installed on your computer, along with a headset and microphone.

You also will need an ATA (Analog Terminal Adapter) where subscribers plug their traditional analog telephone into the ATA device which in turn connects directly to the Internet or your router or hub/switch.

Since INX uses resellers, both ATA and IP phones may be purchased from your local reseller. INX service-tested softphones, ATAs and IP Phones include Counterpath, Grandstream, Cisco, Sipura, Linksys, Asterisk, UTStarcom, Zyxel and most other SIP based phones.

If you are using an IP hardphone or ATA (analog terminal adapter) you do not need a computer to use the service. However, in some situations, it may be helpful to have a computer so you can upgrade or change the settings of your INX service and access your account and voice messages online. You will need a computer if you are using the service with an IP software phone.

Features

INX offers local number services, VoIP toll-free services worldwide, call center services, callshop services, calling cards and hosted international IP-PBX services for residents and for businesses.

Designed for companies that have branches and partners worldwide, INX Hosted IP-PBX Services provides a global phone system that combines the features of other INX services such as local numbers, voice mail and auto-attendant with free extension dialing worldwide. Don’t see what you need, INX will design services to your requirements. Business owners can use INX as a cost-effective extension of a worldwide business. The features include INX “Follow Me” service, which allows calls to be forwarded to another number according to personal settings. Forward INX voice messages to email, and use your own IP phone, gateway or IP-PBX.

Due to FCC regulations, INX U.S. numbers are not available to U.S. residents as a replacement for regular telephone services. Some INX business services are available to U.S. businesses for certain applications and all INX worldwide numbers are available to both U.S. business and residents. INX is not a local telephone replacement service and cannot be used for emergency access, collect calls or operator services.

Performance

Generally, the best results with INX’s PC-to-Phone service are obtained with upstream and downstream bandwidths greater than 128 kb/s in both directions (INX claims that you can use a dial-up connection as long as it maintains 128 kb/s). INX service will not interfere with your ability to go onto the Internet, and it will route incoming and outgoing voice calls alongside incoming and outgoing data from your computer. You can make and receive calls while you use your computer to access the Internet, as well as when your computer is off or not connected to the Internet. The way their service works is that it routes your incoming and outgoing voice calls right alongside the data being sent to or from your computer.

Some hotels, hot spots and others could block your INX service due to the network security policies of the hotels and hotspots.

Service and Support

INX carries a 14-day refund policy to insure that you like their service. If you decide to cancel your service within the 14-Day trial period, they will refund half of the activation and monthly fee, as well as any remaining prepaid long distance balance less any calling charges in excess of 150 minutes. The 150 minute limit includes local and long distance calling on Unlimited plans. Refunds usually take up to 10 business days. You may cancel your service at any time. There is no annual contract. You only need to cancel 10 days before the start of your next billing period to avoid charges for the next month.

INX provides online information about their products and services, and it is presumed that more service and support options are available upon registration. They do offer a support email in their online FAQ.
