Craig Walker and Vincent Paquet founded Grand Central. The two men had a mission to create a different kind of communications company than was available from other companies. Grand Central wanted to make VoIP technology simpler for the average person.

Grand Central is not a phone replacement system; rather it is an inventive way to make the phones the user has easier and more functional. The company’s number for life system makes it easy for people to be free from any one particular phone.

Installation and Interface

Since Grand Central is not a standard VoIP phone system the user just needs a touch-tone phone and a web browser for installation. The browser must be able to handle flash. If the user does not have the ability to play flash on their screen he/she can download it from the Adobe Flash page.

To call on the Grand Central phone the user has several options. If there is a voicemail it is possible to press the number 2 to return the call. If it is a fresh call all he/she has to do is click a button next to a contact’s name. There is no charge to call via the Grand Central phone.

Features

There are many great features that go along with the Grand Central phone system. All calls are reached through just one number that is given to the user by Grand Central. These numbers should be added to one’s account where he/she decides when and how those numbers should be forwarded or answered.

This centralization makes it easy to collect voicemails all in one place. This is very helpful if the person travels frequently or just seems to have too many inboxes to keep up with.

The ListenIn feature allows for the user to listen as their caller leaves a message. ListenIn is an innovative way to screen calls. Calls can also be recorded at any time if a circumstance arises where it needs to be done.

Since everything is handled via a single phone number it is possible for the user to switch phones in the middle of a call. This is handy if he/she is speaking on a cell phone or cordless phone and the battery is getting weak.

Performance

Grand Central works very well for those who want an all in one solution. This is not a standard VoIP system and is not meant to be a replacement for a home phone. Grand Central offers a suite of features that are enticing when used with a regular phone system. The performance has received high marks from those who have used it and there are new product plans in place now that Google has acquired Grand Central.

Service and Support

Service and support is available online through the website. Google has purchased Grand Central so the support is maintained through the Google company. There is a knowledgebase as well as a way to contact support for more information. The full documentation means that most users will not have any problems getting Grand Central to function.
