Free World Dialup (FWD) is a revolutionary free VoIP system. It is similar to the service Skype that allows users to communicate over the Internet. The difference is that FWD is not limited to only receiving calls from other FWD members, and can be used with an IP telephone. The service is a stand-alone telephone service with some nice features.
The calls can take place on a VoIP ready phone or system or via the downloadable softphone. The choice is up the user and what works best for him/her. Free World Dialup has future plans to expand their service even further.
Installation and Interface
Installation of Free World Dialup is as simple as signing up and downloading software. The service can also be set up to use a dedicated IP phone. There are plans in the words from the FWD company to certify a phone for their users. When this is available it may be purchased from the online store.
The softphone that is ready for download on the Free World Dialup website is called the FWD Communicator. This is a free download for a free service. There is help and documentation on the website for users who need more clarification. In order for the service to work one’s DSL or cable modem must be turned on and active.
Features
In addition to being free there are many features available with this free plan. Some of them are Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Multiple Presence. The Free World Dialup system is not just a phone; it is also a full Instant Messaging system.
It is possible to tell when friends and family are available to talk. Since many clients are familiar with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, Skype, and ICQ, Free World Dialup allows him/her to transfer his/her contacts to the FWD service instead. This connects the best of both worlds.
Free World Dialup also incorporates Broadcast video and web cam functionality. These features combine to pack a powerful punch for this free VoIP system.
Performance
Free World Dialup is ahead of similar competition because the company allows its users to speak to those outside of the FWD network (for a small fee in the future). This feature moves it ahead of Instant Messaging and typical Internet phone devices. Free World Dialup goes beyond the computer world and allows its users to us a specialized IP phone so that it is more like a genuine phone service.
Service and Support
There is support for Free World Dialup available via the website. There are online help forums as well as a FAQ section that can help most savvy FWD users.
